Latin Name : Artemisia dracunculus from the family Composiate. Dracunculus means little dragon. Dragon herbs were believed to cure bites from venomous creatures!
Native to southern Europe it also fairs well in the dry areas of North America, Southern Asia and Siberia. In ancient times it was mixed with the juice of fennel and was a favoured drink of the kings of India.
Tarragon is well known to be the main ingredient for Béarnaise sauce, but it really is a ‘cut above’ the rest of the culinary herbs for its ability to complement so many different dishes.
