Latin Name : Rosmarinus from the family Labiatae. Its translation from ancient Latin means dew of the sea.
Native to the Mediterranean it is now cultivated throughout temperate regions.
This is another herb which is steeped in myth, magic and medicinal folklore. In Elizabethan times a couple on their wedding day would wear a sprig of rosemary as a sign of fidelity. It was also used to freshen and purify the air in sick chambers.
For culinary purposes rosemary is one of the most versatile of herbs, being an excellent accompaniment to meat dishes, most specifically lamb, casseroles, salads and a variety of vinegars and oils.
