Rhubarb originated from northern Asia and Siberia. Did you know… that rhubarb is not a fruit but in fact a vegetable and related to sorrel and dock and its leaves are highly posionous. It has been cultivated for many centuries and in the past used much more for its medicinal uses. When cooking, just sweeten with sugar, makes a wonderful filling in pies and crumbles and as it is a vegetable goes well in casseroles, in particular pork, lamb and duck. It is one of the lowest calorie foods and contains large amounts of calcium and potassium.
