Latin Name : Latin name - Oreganum marjorana from the family Labiatae. Greek translation ‘oros’ meaning mountain and ‘ganos’ which means joy and beauty, therefore the literal translation is ‘joy of the mountain’.

Native to the Mediterranean but now found growing in many regions in the world. It is known as wild marjoram in Britain yet where it grows wild in Italy it is known as oregano.
Marjoram and oregano are known to aid digestion and act as a preservative. They are another of the main ingredients to be found in bouquet garni and combine very well with meat and tomato dishes.
