A closely related member of the ginger family used widely in cuisines of South East Asia, Thailand and in China for medicinal purposes. There are vague reports that is is used hallucinogenically by natives in several parts of New Guinea! Compliments soups, stews and curries, chicken and seafood, in particular prawns. It has a long history of medicinal use in more tropical regions of Asia.
