These belong to the same family as aubergines, tomato and potato. Cultivated 9,000 years ago in the Valley of Mexico in North America. They were not introduced to the New World until Columbus discovered them in the 15th Century. There are many different varities of chilli throughout the world, over a hundred and fifty in Mexico alone! Used in cuisine all over the world to spice up savoury dishes or to make a hot sauce. They are rich in vitamin C and recommended for digestive problems in moderation and circulatory problems.
