Commonly found in western and central Europe and North America. Used in 16th Century folk medicine. The blueberry grows on a shrub which is to be found growing on inhospitable, peaty moors and uplands. A good source of iron, Vitamin C, and dietary fibre and one of the top sources of antioxidants. They promote healing of gastric ulcers, are said to improve eyesight and are useful in preventing cancer and other degenerative diseases. Culinary notes, Blueberry pie, as a topping for cheesecakes and the firm American favourite Blueberry muffins.
