The ancient Greeks enjoyed wild asparagus but it wasn't actually cultivated until Roman times, it is known that Julius Caeser liked to eat it with just melted butter. These days it is regarded as a luxury vegetable, but with its intense rich flavour, is most certainly worth it. Best just steamed and served with a Hollandaise sauce. A good source of potassium, iron and calcium as well as vitamins A, B2 and C. Extremely good for intestinal health and has anti-cancer properties.
